James Ivey was born in Ipswich, Suffolk and studied Music Technology at Guildhall University, London.
After graduating, he went to work for TSC (The Solutions Company) selling and installing recording studio equipment. This included designing and installing recording systems for Pete Townsend of The Who, Ian Broudie of The Lightning Seeds, Mark “Spike” Stent, and many more.
James left TSC for work in pop video production with FAB Audio, working on promos for U2, Pulp, Kylie, and Oasis, amongst others.
James also toured the world as a drummer and musical director on many cruise lines and performed as part of the house band at Butlins.
Now back in London, James plays drums for the UK band “The Talent” and is also a software demonstrator for Avid Technology, TC Group and Shure Distribution at trade shows and events. He is also a regular contributing editor and podcastor for the Pro Tools Expert blog. This allows him to carry his love of all things audio back into the studio world and has also enabled him to qualify as a certified Pro Tools operator and Sibelius master instructor and demonstrator.
Location Recordings is an outlet for James’ many musical interests, as he loves nothing more than simply making and recording great music.
